While there have been several studies about AR and health, the ways in which these studies conceptualize AR and the contexts in which they apply AR vary greatly. This chapter reviews the different areas of literature that have utilized AR, to see where there are commonalities and differences. Furthermore, this chapter illuminates how AR in particular could influence health outcomes based on its unique technical features and affordances. Based on this review, this chapter discusses several promising areas for AR and health and medicine, as well as important gaps and directions for future research.
